The City of Georgetown offers American Red Cross (ARC) Learn to Swim classes. Classes during the school year are two days a week for four weeks. All classes are 35 minutes each and are held at the Georgetown Recreation Center.</p>
<p>The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation will make all lesson cancellations due to inclement weather with the safety of our participants in mind.  Cancellations will be made 30 minutes prior to class. Age restrictions for all Learn to Swim classes will be enforced.</p>
<p><strong>Lesson Fees:  Resident:  $35        Nonresident: $45</strong></p>
<p><strong>Parent &amp; Child Beginner        Ages 6 months to 3 years</strong><br />
The foundation of the ARC Parent and Child Beginner class is to familiarize young children to the water and prepare them to learn to swim. These basic skills include water adjustment, enter and exit the water in a safe manner, explore submerging to the mouth, nose and eyes completely, explore buoyancy. A responsible adult is required to participate with the child. All classes will be held at the Georgetown Recreation Center.<br />

This class will focus on front and back glides and floats, rolling from front to back and back to front, treading water using arm and leg actions, combined arm and leg actions on front and back, finning arm action, learning how to stay safe, including recognizing an emergency, knowing how to call for help, and performing simple non-swimming assists, learning how to stay safe in, on and around the water, learning what to think about and do when exhausted or caught in a dangerous situation. All classes will be held at the Georgetown Recreation Center.<br />

The foundation of the ARC Level 3 Learn to Swim program class is to increase proficiency and build on the basic aquatic skills learned in Level 1/2 by providing additional guided practice with increased distances and times. This class will focus on front, jellyfish and tuck floats, recovering from a front or back float or glide to a vertical position, back float and glide, change direction of travel while swimming on front and back, combined arm and leg actions on front and back, treading water using arm and leg actions, learning how to stay safe, including recognizing an emergency and knowing how to call for help, and learning how to stay safe in, on and around the water. All classes are held at the Georgetown Recreation Center.<br />

The foundation of the ARC Level 4 Learn to Swim program class is to develop participants’ confidence in the strokes learned in Level 3 and to improve other aquatic skills. This class will focus on headfirst entries from the side in compact and stride positions, swimming under water, feet first surface dives, survival swimming, front crawl and backstroke open turns, treading water using two different kicks, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly, flutter and dolphin kicks on back, learning to look carefully before entering the water, learning to perform simple non-swimming assists, and learning about recreational water illnesses and how to avoid them. All classes are held at the Georgetown Recreation Center.<br />

Level 3 –</span><br />
Ages 6 – 12 years. </strong>The foundation of the ARC Level 3 Learn to Swim program class is to increase proficiency and build on the basic aquatic skills learned in Level 1/2 by providing additional guided practice with increased distances and times. This class will focus on front, jellyfish and tuck floats, recovering from a front or back float or glide to a vertical position, back float and glide, change direction of travel while swimming on front and back, combined arm and leg actions on front and back, treading water using arm and leg actions, learning how to stay safe, including recognizing an emergency and knowing how to call for help, and learning how to stay safe in, on and around the water.</p>

Level 4 –</span><br />
Ages 6 – 12 years. </strong>The foundation of the ARC Level 4 Learn to Swim program class is to develop participants’ confidence in the strokes learned in Level 3 and to improve other aquatic skills. This class will focus on headfirst entries from the side in compact and stride positions, swimming under water, feet first surface dives, survival swimming, front crawl and backstroke open turns, treading water using two different kicks, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly, flutter and dolphin kicks on back, learning to look carefully before entering the water, learning to perform simple nonswimming assists, and learning about recreational water illnesses and how to avoid them.</p>

Ages 6 – 12 years. </strong>The foundation of the ARC Level 5 Learn to Swim program class is to further learn how to coordinate and refine strokes. This class will focus on shallow-angle dives from the side then gliding and beginning a front stroke, tuck and pike surface dives and submerging completely, front flip turn and backstroke flip turn while swimming, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly, sculling, learning how to call for help and the importance of knowing first aid and CPR, learning basic safety guidelines for participating in aquatic activities at water parks.</p>

Level 6: Fitness Swimmer –</strong></span><strong><br />
Ages 6 – 12 years. </strong>The foundation of the ARC Level 6: Fitness Swimmer Learn to Swim program class is to refine strokes so participants swim with more ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness and over greater distances. This class will focus on increasing endurance while performing strokes, demonstrating front crawl open turn, backstroke open turn, sidestroke turn, front flip turn, backstroke flip, butterfly turn and breaststroke while swimming, demonstrating etiquette in fitness swimming, discussing and demonstrating how to use pull buoys, fins, pace clocks, and paddles while swimming, describing the principles of setting up a fitness program, demonstrating various training techniques, and applying the principles of water exercise.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Summer swim lessons are held at four of the outdoor pools in Georgetown over the summer season, and a variety of different programs for varying ages and abilities will be available. Registration will start at 8:00 a.m on April 30th for residents, and May 1st for non-residents. On-line registration will be available starting May 1.</p>
<p>All summer swim programs will follow the same session schedule:<br />
